Product Review - Evolutions Theme Decks

Today we will have a brief look at the Evolutions theme decks so you can work out if they're a suitable product for you!

What's in it?

As with all theme decks, this comes with a full 60-card deck, ready to play straight away with all the Pokemon, Trainers and Energies you need to start. It also comes with rules, the paper playmat, damage counters and poison and burn counters.

What's good about it?

  • It has everything you need to get started, so it's perfect for new players
  • It hits the nostalgia factor - they've used the same card art as the original cards, so it's an awesome product for anyone looking to re-live their childhood
  • Every deck is the same so you know exactly what you'll get. You can find the deck list here for Pikachu and here for Mewtwo.
  • If two friends get these decks (1 of each), they're fairly evenly matched, so you should be fairly even so one person is not beating the other all the time
  • It's relatively cheap. It works out at around 40c a card, compared to the 70c a card you pay when buying boosters.

What are the limitations?

  • It has the same limitations as all theme decks - it's under-powered compared to other products. The deck comes with no EXs or other really powerful cards, meaning if you want to get more competitive, you'll need to supplement it with other products.
  • If you're a collector, this product comes with multiples of many of the cards (as it's better to have multiples of a card if you're playing in tournaments), so you'll get more than 1 copy of a lot of cards you don't want.

This product doesn't quite sound like it would suit me, what else can you suggest?

If you already have a deck and are looking for something a little more competitive, I'd suggest either booster packs or EX tins. These products are where you can get the more powerful cards from, but EX tins do cost a little more.

If you're a collector, again booster packs are a staple, or you could take a look at our range of collection boxes to pick some up with cards you like the look of.

These decks sound awesome! Where can I get one?

You can find the Mewtwo one here and Pikachu here. We have a very limited quantity available, so if you're after any, your best bet would be to get a hold of them quickly!
