At Card merchant we are lucky enough to have a team full of hard working, beautiful people that enjoy all the things you do!! From hoarding squishmallows, DnD Shenanigans and board game chaos to our boxes and boxes of TCG's chaff, our team really does it all.
We're a company of passionate gamers, with staff who have represented New Zealand in the world championships for Magic: the Gathering, Flesh and Blood plus Pokémon. We also have passionate staff about Yu-Gi-Oh who regularly represent NZ at international tournaments. We also have passionate pop collectors, board game players and D&D players. We believe our expert knowledge and passion for our products makes us industry leaders.
In Auckland you’ve got 2 amazing Card Merchants for twice the fun at your local game stores. West City Henderson (Inside the Mall) and Takapuna along Hurstmere road. We thought this would be a great time to introduce you to the helpful crew as we jump into another year full of events. I’ve been a big fan of Pokémon & Yugioh since childhood. A PhD and an expert in Nutrition & Clinical Research but decided to follow my passion and further my career in the hobby industry and Joined Card Merchant family in 2022. In Feb, I opened up a Card Merchant in Hamilton as a franchise store owner and later in June took over as the managing director of the Card Merchant main store in Westcity and also oversee the branding and all franchise stores around the country. I really enjoy meeting passionate gamers and collectors, growing the TCG & gaming community, and being able to work with an amazing staffing team. I'm looking forward to seeing what 2023 can bring!

Heya all, I'm Paul A.K.A. Gummybear!!I have been with Card Merchant since 2017 starting off in the Lynn mall store before moving to the Westcity store and finally ending up in the Takapuna store. I have been in retail for almost 20 years and still to this day I absolutely love mtg! Magic: the Gathering is something I hold very close to my heart and have done for over 26 years and I am as passionate about it now as I was the day I started!! Dungeons and dragons was introduced to me back in 2018, it is something that I invest quite a bit of time into as I'm a player in two campaigns, A lvl 13 paladin in dungeon of the madmage which has been running for 3 years & a lvl 7 barbarian in Icewind dale. Basically anything nerdy and geeky floats my boat!!

Hi there, I'm Georgia and I am the Assistant Manager of our Westcity Store . Even though I am the youngest in the management team I know how to make sure the store is running smoothly in the background. I've been with Card Merchant for 3 years now and love the people that I've met in the TCG communities, I used to run the Takapuna Pokémon events on Sundays! Looking for a specific Squishmallow, Flesh and Blood card or high end Pokémon card? Then pop into our stores to see if I can help you! I love the range within the community of our customers, we have people from all backgrounds that come through because they all enjoy the same types of hobbies. It's awesome to see regulars and get updates about how their DND campaigns are playing out or what amazing Pokémon card someone pulled from a pack they bought!

Howdy Doody, I'm Miette and I can be found floating around at both our Auckland stores, This will be the start of my third year with Card Merchant! My usual role is taking care of all the behind the scenes work that goes into helping our team look after the store. I used to hide out the back but I'm now a free elf and can be found helping you out at the counter or running events! I'm also an avid MTG & DnD player with too many unpainted minis! The community around any Local game store is what I adore, being able to help people find their new favorite hobby while talking about mine is what I love most about this job as well as the network that comes along from both the social aspect and internal people im lucky enough to meet such as our other staff and high ranking TCG nerds!

A massive nerd with a bigger heart! I’ve been into card games and nerdism since I can remember. I play Magic the Gathering and way too much DND, If that is even possible? I love working at Card Merchant because it builds a network that I can connect with people that share similar hobbies with me. I get to play with people outside my regular play group for Magic and I get to hear about weird and wonderful stories that happen to people in their own DND campaigns. I like to think i'm friendly, approachable and have a sense of humor.

Hey, it's Greg! I've been playing tabletop games and CCG/TCGs for most of my life - started with D&D and Magic 30-odd years ago, and played many more along the way since: Pokemon, Flesh & Blood, Battletech and the various editions of D&D just some of them. Given that track record, not a surprise that I've ended up here! These days I'm still going with Magic (mostly EDH & Pauper) and picking up Battletech again.
I still haven't painted those minis though. I love the community - catching up with all of you when you're in for events is definitely the highlight of the week!

I've been working for Card Merchant since around the end of 2022 and started out as one of the volunteers. I love packing orders, seeing new interesting cards come through the store, and talking with people about d&d. Usually I'm at the front counter, happy to help or chat. My favorite aspects of working at CM is being able to talk with people who share my interests, and weirdly enough packing orders? Especially when you don't have to run around looking for a box for an hour!
Our team has grown and changed a lot in since the last time we updated our blog post! We look forward to another year of working together within Auckland, helping at the expo's and being a part of our local community.
